Frequently Asked Questions
How should I care for my boat?
Rinse you boat after each use with fresh water. About every 6 months or so clean your boat thoroughly with soap and water and wax it with a good car wax or polish. Occasionally lubricate metal parts with a light oil, such as WD-40.
How should I store my canoe?
You should store your canoe out of direct sunlight and off the ground. Make sure the supporting cradles (if on a stand) or straps (if suspended) are at least 6-8 inches in width. This will avoid putting pressure points on the boat. Store your boat in a cool, shaded, and dry area off the ground.
How should I carry my canoe?
Stand inside the iako and ama; pick up the canoe where the seat ends and the footwells begin (this is the balance point of the canoe); lift to shoulder and support with shoulder and hands. Let the ama rest on the outside of your leg. DO NOT let your shoulder support the entire weight of the boat or you could eventually dent or crack the hull. Always set the boat down gently in water, grass or sand. The gel coat finish is easily scratched.
How should I transport my canoe?
Your canoe is made to be transported on its hull, using good cradles; or, if carrying it on its deck, make sure the racks fall between the front and back iako holders. The seating area is the strongest part of the canoe.
